In brief
Estate planning on this page is with specialist legal partners. MGB Financial Services is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. Vermilion does not give legal advice. Financial advice is provided by MGB Financial Services.
General information. Reviewed 16 October 2026. Rules, caps and benefit tests change. Check the Australian Taxation Office, Moneysmart or Services Australia before you rely on a figure.
Who it's for
Families with wealth that more than one person depends on. Parents who want retirement and insurance questions considered beside what happens if one of them dies. Adult children who are starting to share decisions. Families who already have a lawyer and an accountant and want the financial advice to sit beside that work, not instead of it.
Readers with larger balance sheets, trusts or a self-managed super fund should also read financial planning for ultra high net worth individuals. That page describes structures in general terms. It does not turn this page into legal advice.

How we help
What a family conversation can cover
The financial subjects are the authorised ones: personal insurance for the people whose income the family uses, superannuation and retirement planning for each person who needs it, wealth accumulation within the investments the practice may advise on, and a budget where spending is shared. Each person who receives personal advice receives it for themselves. A family discussion is not a shortcut around that.
Estate planning with specialist legal partners is the legal work: wills, powers of attorney, and the documents a lawyer considers appropriate. Vermilion may introduce a family to those partners where the family asks. The introduction is not the legal advice. The partners do that work, on their own terms.
Tax outcomes of a will, a gift or a structure are questions for the family's accountant. This page does not estimate tax and does not suggest a structure.
- Personal insurance and retirement planning for the people concerned, under the Financial Services Guide.
- Estate planning with specialist legal partners, kept clearly as legal work.
- A clear line between financial advice, legal advice and tax advice.
- Fees for financial advice agreed with MGB Financial Services before that work starts.
- No promise about what a family will be able to pass on.
How a family office conversation proceeds
Who is in the room
You tell Vermilion which family members the questions concern. The first meeting does not advise any of them.
Separate the professions
Financial questions that sit in the Financial Services Guide can be introduced to MGB Financial Services. Estate planning is with specialist legal partners. Tax stays with the accountant.
Advice only for the person who asks
Personal advice is prepared for the client who engages the practice, in writing, after fees are agreed. One person's document is not the family's by default.
Reviews when the family changes
A birth, a death, a separation or a sale of a business changes the questions. A review is agreed. It is not assumed, and it is not a legal update.
Limits
- Treating a website page as a will, or as a substitute for a lawyer, leaves documents undone.
- Insurance and super that fitted one person can fit a family poorly after a death or a separation.
- Legal, tax and financial work can pull in different directions if each adviser sees only a part of the question.
- Introductions to legal partners do not mean those partners are engaged. Engagement is the family's own decision.
- No arrangement described here preserves a family's wealth. Values, tax and family circumstances change.
Questions
FAQs
Is Vermilion a family office?
No. Vermilion introduces clients to financial advice. It does not run a family office, manage investments, or provide governance, tax or legal services. Financial advice is provided by MGB Financial Services Pty Ltd under the Financial Services Guide.
What does estate planning with specialist legal partners mean?
It means wills and related legal documents are prepared by lawyers, not by Vermilion and not by MGB Financial Services. MGB is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. If you want an introduction to specialist legal partners, you can ask. The legal work is theirs.
Does MGB Financial Services give legal advice?
No. The Financial Services Guide states that legal advice is not provided by the practice. Estate planning on this website is described only as estate planning with specialist legal partners.
What financial services can a family ask about?
The services in the Financial Services Guide: personal insurance, superannuation and retirement planning, retirement income streams, wealth accumulation, budget and cash flow, and Centrelink or other government benefits where they are relevant. Personal advice, if requested, is provided by MGB Financial Services to the person who engages the practice.
How do accountants fit in?
Tax advice and tax structures sit with the family's accountant. This page does not give tax advice and does not review a tax return. Financial advice can be coordinated with the accountant where you ask for that, without the practice becoming the tax adviser.
Who is this family office page for?
Families, including those who describe themselves as a family office, who want financial advice for family members kept separate from legal and tax work. It is general information. It is not an engagement of a family office.
What happens if I enquire from this page?
The enquiry form records that the topic is other, which covers family office and private client questions. Vermilion uses the details to arrange a consultation. If you ask for an introduction, the enquiry can be passed to MGB Financial Services. The consultation is not legal advice and not financial advice.
Are fees for a family set on this page?
No. Fees for financial advice are explained by MGB Financial Services and agreed in writing before advice proceeds. The Financial Services Guide sets out the ranges. Legal partners set their own fees. This page publishes neither as a quote.
